The Darlington Area Recreation Department and the City of Darlington will hold Screen on the Square on Friday, June 12, at dusk. The feature will be Tangled. In the event of inclement weather, the free screening will be held in the Darlington High School gym, 525 Spring St.
Calling all Proud Pet Owners! The Market on Darlington Square will hold its second annual Pet Parade on Saturday, June 6, at the Public Square in Darlington. Register from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., and then march around the Square at 11 a.m. to show how proud you are of your pet. All children will receive a toy for participation, and it’s free to enter. We will be collecting donations of leashes, collars, bleach, kitten food, and puppy food for the Darlington County Humane Society in conjunction with this event. The Market also features vendors selling arts & crafts, produce, plants, and more. Local favorite Rusty Henderson performs live too. Vendor spaces are $25 with discounts available for nonprofit organizations. Farmers and children are allowed spaces at no charge. To combat mosquitoes and the public health hazards that they present, the City of Darlington has established a comprehensive mosquito control program. Mosquito spraying will be provided city- wide (weather permitting) on Monday and Tuesdays beginning May 18, 2015 and continue as long as needed to help control the adult mosquito population. Hours will range from 6 p.m. until 11 p.m. The chemicals will not be sprayed if the drivers see residents outside. Be sure to bring in pet bowls, including water, prior to spraying. The next deadline to apply for a citywide business loan program is June 30. The Build Up Darlington Citywide Business Loan Program has a revolving loan pool to fund approved projects. The program launched in 2012 funded through a U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Business Enterprise Grant. Funds support technical assistance, some training and seminars, and a revolving loan fund under the umbrella of the Darlington Downtown Revitalization Association and the City of Darlington. Applications will be reviewed on a monthly basis until funds are exhausted. More.
